for the District and Conference
Answering these questions will help in updating the District and Conference Disaster Response Plans.
District-Level Questions
- Do your pastors know what to do in the event of a disaster?
- Early preparation, during the crisis, immediately after the event? 1-3 days after?
- Are your churches ready?
- Who is your District Disaster Response Coordinator?
- How will you two communicate with each other?
- Who is the local emergency management coordinator? What resources do they have?
- What other resources are in your area? Local, State, US Government, Military?
- Do you know where to get funds for emergency living expense?
Conference-Level Questions
The Bishop will take the lead in disaster preparation and responses by ensuring the following questions are answered:
- Are the districts ready for disaster?
- What connections are in place?
- What people are available?
- What resources are available?
- Do you have access to government-supplied information?
- Is the MERCI warehouse prepared for immediate response with water, food, temporary building materials, volunteers, etc.?
Training and Downloads *
Training is available through: MERCI, Disaster Response Committee members, and NC Volunteers in Mission. Classes are generally taught at MERCI. If you have 20 or more people, we can train in your location. Learn more about the training offered on our Training page.
